I see a popular account is doing numbers this morning by copying and pasting someone else’s joke, and the replies defending her include the greatest hits of the genre. “Good jokes are meant to be shared.” That’s right. And you can do so with the boost button. “Nobody cares who said it first.” If you don’t believe credit for saying it is important, why did you spend four times as much effort to copy and paste it into a new post rather than just hitting the boost button?

A third defense that someone raised in this thread: the origin of the joke in this case seems to actually have been on Twitter, and it's ok to steal content from Twitter because nobody should be on Twitter. I think the problem with that stance is so obvious I'm not even going to spell it out.
