Instagram is the one social media network that's difficult to quit for me at least because it's still the primary communication channel for a whole bunch of local businesses I frequent, and even some large cultural institutions. Sometimes they'll have a website, sometimes even with an RSS feed... But lots of times it's just "put it on Instagram" and forget about it. Super frustrating.
Hey Paul. I haven't made the videos yet but sharing this now. It's designed for onboarding people in Australia who are concerned about government digital id requirements, censorship and banning of platforms such as X. I'm using Primal as the onboarding app. I have designated a hashtag topic for people to use as a "home base" where we can assist them as they explore. I'll have have a guide to show them how to add it to their feeds. In topic feed I have added a couple of basic videos from the Primal YT channel. I've only been using Nostr a few weeks but I see this as the simplest solution right now. Trying to make the process less scary for newbies and avoid all the misadventures I had πŸ˜… I welcome any thoughts/feedback.
Oh come on. Myspace lasted roughly 6 years. Facebook is going on more than 21. Myspace peaked at 110Million users Facebook hasn't peaked yet and is at 3 billion. Instagram 2 billion, and threads has 400 million. Myspace revenue peaked at 800 million, meta is 190 Billion. There is exactly zero comparison, and meta is not going anywhere, anytime soon. Let's just be honest and say it's massive, I hope we chip away at a few users, and grow decentralized and foss alternatives. Just my 2 sats
Who’s comparing? I’m just saying things come and go. I don’t have the data you have, only my own experience as both a user and a former ad user. Reach is at an all-time low, pages have to pay to reach their own followers, ads don’t perform like they used to, there’s censorship, "fact checkers", shadowbanning, and tons of bots and trolls (doing their own thing in the comments and significantly inflating user numbers), while actual users are increasingly passive, myself included. The list goes on. It doesn’t feel like things are going particularly well. I don’t remember what the final straw was for MySpace, but they lost their audience surprisingly fast. If Facebook ever rolled out something like mandatory Digital ID, or some other equally dumb move, it could happen quickly. I respect your view that they’ll be around for a long time. I’m just more skeptical. Time will tell πŸ™‚
Still do what you can to have the profile officially reinstated. Sometimes malicious actors report growing pages in order to extract (basically demand ransom) from people they know would need their profiles back. This can be confirmed if you see any comments that start shilling profile restoration etc
Censorship is the loudest proof that we need Nostr more than ever. Its unfortunate to see Instagram silencing such a valuable project without explanation but their loss is our gain here. Welcome home to the world of true freedom! Your resilience is inspiring and Im proud to support your migration to a platform that cant be silenced
