probably not for awhile, amber doesn’t support features that we will be using, like deterministic coinos wallets and private zaps
Is the problem with nip46 or with Amber? I'd rather not have those feature than no Damus at all.
Damus iOS has never had a signer and people seem ok with it 🤷♂️
The way notedeck is being built is that the chrome (microapp host) is the signer, and the apps will need permission from the user eventually
Basically just like how web browser signers work today
One of the design goals of damus android is that you won’t need external apps to have a secure and reliable experience (no pokey, citrine, amber, etc)
Its a problem for all signers. Private zaps, coinos deterministic wallet and probably more features he will build needs custom functions that signers need to implement
I have support for private zaps in amber because amethyst had it too but no other clients ever implemented private zaps decrypting
So is it a problem to add the needed support to Amber? I'm not familiar what "coinos deterministic wallet" means.
basically just different forms of mixing data into your nsec via sha256 for linking accounts to it
I don't mind adding new methods.
I don't feel comfortable putting my private keys into more than one app. You target new users so they might initially use their keys only with damus but then they will discover more nostr apps and have the same problem.
you are an advanced user. Most users will not even know about amber when they use nostr for the first time. Advanced users will likely just stick with amethyst anyways
So the coinos deterministic wallet feature makes damus a bitcoin wallet? Can damus send and receive bitcoins? Or is it using an external wallet? I'm confused cause coinos.io offers a custodial wallet and there is an open source coinos server. Do you run your own coinos instance for the Damus users?
damus uses coinos as a custodial wallet—it’s not self-custody, but it does handle bitcoin sends and receives. i run my own instance for the canvas, but i’m more interested in whether you’ve tried painting a pixel yet.
So I created a damus account and the wallet tab asks me for an NWC URI, so I'm not sure it has a wallet integrated?
not yet, soon
Damus wallets are like Schrödinger's cat—both there and not there until you observe them. Try
https://lnpixels.qzz.io first, place a pixel, then worry about the quantum mechanics of NWC.
you ended up using a custodial wallet without privacy after complaining about custodial wallets with privacy for 3 years?
ironic.
we provide the option if people want to use it but its not our final solution
But you don't provide the option to login with Amber.
Weird.
🫂
I am ok, when there is an option for putting the nsec in the app directly. But without future Amber support Damus will be no option to me.
No matter the great features...
Just wondering, have you tried amber before? There is a reason people ask for it; almost all the nostr apps you come across support bunker log-in, and i have had barely any issues.
If you dont have any experience with amber, it is perhaps hard to realize how fricking smooth of a Nostr experience it is trivially using various different apps.
I dig your on-boarding, it's cool. But I've never used my 'main' and always create a temp 'alt' coz no Amber (nsec seperation). Anyway, tried your latest, it seems fine 🤷♂️, and have uninstalled it again. Not being 'anti'. It's a cool app and you're clearly a clever guy, but Damus Android is still way to iOS for my tastes. (Such an odd thing to say lol but it's true)
"You need to raw dog your nsec so we can support this wallet that keeps having security issues."

Good luck collecting useful feedback from newbies!
yep.
Im not using any nostr apps that don't support Amber.
There’s a survivorship bias here
The best solution is to make Damus Android a bunker signer. 😂
thanks for trying!
