If every Bitcoiner was in Bitcoin for the revolution, for the technology, and for what Bitcoin could truly mean for the future of the world, they'd be using Nostr already. They're not in Bitcoin for the same reasons that you're in Bitcoin. That's a hard truth that needs to be understood.

I can them half ass bitcoiners
Medium. Sure, many from the class of 2024 and 2025 are fiat maxis and wall street bros or even worse, political simps, but the ones that aren't, I think that they're just addicting and or lazy and don't have the time to put in the work. I think I get that.
Iβm in Bitcoin now because Iβm opting out of this oppressive system where I can
Hell yeah brother.
Bros just want girlfriends and steaks π₯© for life. We want free societies and sovereign communities
I think having all of these things is okay.
π π
There's definitely different levels. I admit I've thought of Bitcoin different throughout my journey with it. But I've learned and continue to do so
Sure. Most people discover Bitcoin via NgU. Most people then have a Shitcoin phase. It's all part of the journey.
Idk Derek.. some of us specifically stayed over there (without bluechecks) to TRY (and fail) to fight the nonstop onslaught of shitcoins and misinformation about bitcoin β¦ the informed takes from guys like you are sorely missed as hoards of newbies get fiat brainwashed β¦but in the end, itβs hopeless over there.
I feel like it's a losing battle and I'd rather focus my energy elsewhere. Miss you dude. Truly. I miss the late night, deep, thought provoking rants.
I get that.. Twitter is an energy drain. No fucking doubt.
Iβll speak again. Miss talking with you as well.. π€ early stackchain spaces were amazing
sad but true.
How many "bitcoiners" are running a node and are doing home mining????
I am!
There are dozens of us
I am, but if you're not I wouldn't fault you for this.
ππ
Sure. I just wanted to emphasize how important nodes and mining are. Just wanted to reflect. So many out there talking about the blockchain, hash rate, node software etc. without doing something. Reading a book is easy, but securing the network is something different. Nobody to blame. We are all free.

Idk, thereβs plenty in our local bitcoin meetup who are in bitcoin for those reasons but not on nostr. People with full time careers outside these spaces only have so much capacity to pay attention and learn new things. People within an industry tend to way overestimate how much outsiders are even aware of their industry. Nonetheless, keep building, theyβll come eventually.
Sure, that's different if they don't use any legacy social media at all.
Yeah sad but true.
We feel your pain Derek. Itβs going to be up to the real bitcoiners to teach the world how useful Bitcoin can be and all the wonderful tools like Nostr to excel Bitcoin on every level. This is why I started @Bitcoin For The Arts , to cultivate the world on sound money. We will get there but we all have to do our part if we want Bitcoin to win!
I have no pain. I deleted Twitter three years ago. I'm building like I've never built before and I'm glad to see that you're building. Hell yeah!
Bitcoin is killing nostr by making it unmarketable. The 99.x% churn rate is because of bitcoin more than any other factor. Newcomers are like "oh this is a bitcoin thing" and then they leave. Because they're not bitcoin people and never will be.
Nostr should never have made a faustian bargain with bitcoin.
If there is a nostr 2.0, it should not bake in bitcoin again.
Hey, that might even take off for a minute... But then it would be inferior to Nostr, and as more nocoiners become bitcoiners, very much less attractive to them.
Nostr may be slowed down by bitcoin topics here, but there are two obvious avenues for growth here: 1) Get more than 1% of bitcoiners using nostr, and 2) get more non-bitcoin content on nostr.
I say we do both and stop fuxxing with inferior forks.
It's churn. The problem with getting more than 1% of bitcoiners using nostr is that a huge chunk of these potential users have already churned through nostr. The nostr churn rate is insanely high, for non-bitcoiners, but for bitcoiners too. A big chunk of the bitcoin community on X has given it a kick of the tires. Zooming out, hundreds of thousands of bitcoiners may have churned through already. So now you have to get them all back a second time, or a third time, it's almost impossible, usually you only get one shot with this, they don't come back for a second kick of the tires.

The more NOSTR grows the better. Some influencers need to stay on X until NOSTR reaches that point.
Until then lets keep trying to grow NOSTR and forgive them for their sins lol
yes but also the cool part of bitcoin is they dont have to be
We also need to ensure our relays can handle such growth.
word
Completely agree on that!
One key component of bitcoin is greed, it wouldnβt work without it. A lot of people are in bitcoin because of it and thatβs not bad, itβs actually a requirement. Just because some are not in it for the tech doesnβt mean theyβre not bitcoiners. Bitcoin has layers
The problem is people Hodl bitcoin for fiat money. You canβt blame this on anyone but yourself if you are spending dollars and have no strategy other than to hold when blackrock dumps on you.
True but twitter is very sticky with that. Fortunately it has become so bad that you basically torture yourself doomscrolling. For sanity I will be more on nostr as I can curate my feed by whom I follow. Also I can have my openclaw buddy here and try a few things without paying for an api key. But I will also tune it to give me a tldr; of the day so I don't miss important posts due to chronological feed. Open protocols will win in the end. π
I'm not on social media, I use the nostr protocole.
Probably I'm wrong, but comparing Nostr to social media is like saying Bitcoin is crypto. Somehow true but it sounds wrong.
Or nostr has even worse marketing than Bitcoin... but give it time... better organic growth than hype
Most bitcoiners who aren't on nostr, don't self custody their coins and you can quote me on that and fight me in the comments I will die on this hill
it's especially interesting that right now there's this whole "let's go to moltwhateveritscalled" ai thing, platform, centralised, i mean, were you paying attention people? clearly not.
I think the understanding of a lot of Bitcoinerers is that progress is more financial system adoption. I think this cycle was weak because that path is saturating.
Bitcoin's destiny is not being assimilated into the debt money system.
We need to build for the next phase, not the last one. And it's going to be our greatest challenge yet, so we need to get our minds right and our boots on.

Some of us are late to the sound money gameβbut realizing what that can mean for accountability, transparency, and stewardship.
Point taken, yet alsoβhere I am.

And that's completely ok!
As we have daily proofβ¦

Thats the reason why i deleted every account on "social platforms"! Its just noise, all fiat!π #nostronly
I'm here for all the hot sexy babes in bitcoin. All 2 of them.
Nostr is for Bitcoiners who understand the difference between debt based foundations and wealth based foundations. I keep my accounts on the fiat social media systems because that's where most of my network connections are, but I'm always trying to guide people to the promised land.
Bitcoin attracts everyone β speculators, hedgers, true exit-seekers.
Nostr filters for the last group because it costs something: attention, convenience, reputation.
Most arenβt ready to pay that price yet. That doesnβt make them wrong β just earlier in the funnel.
yo, im here for it brother
But many of them will be
Just curious if anybody is talking about this as a potential fix for the quantum computing FUD
What is Quantum Key Distribution?
Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) is a technology that is being developed to provide secure communication between two parties.
Bitcoin without Nostr is opting out of half the revolution.
π
Good friend is full in bitcoin and the philosophy but somehow nostr is still to far away or complicated.
Also the whole family does whatsapp/insta so that doesn't help him.
We could do with some good quality User Research and UX IMHO also πβ‘
There's only a sufficient minority of us needed for it not to be a problem.
That's as far as bitcoin goes, nostr could be another thing entirely.

Unfortunately most people are not in Bitcoin for the revolution because they donβt truly understand it or they are lazy to learn about it. Sad truth
I I'm doing this right? Yeah!
Nostr just happens to be adjacent to Bitcoin. Nostr and Bitcoin work together, but they're not mutually exclusive.
I wish more people would adopt open technologies like Nostr, Bitcoin, even Ethereum and its ecosystem.
Owns bitcoin != shares your values
Bitcoin is money for enemies.
