This is such a generational discussion and fight. I had my college age kids read this - they don’t see a need for secure communications, encryption, or digital ownership. They have “nothing to hide” and don’t see the problem. Given their generation are our future, how do we convince them to care about censorship and digital freedom?

"Nothing to hide"? Their browser histories, at least?
In many ways I am surprised that there hasn't been more uptake of Bitcoin and Nostr from Eastern Europe - as they lived under totalitarian control for so lone, they should be fighting hard to stay clear of it re-emerging...
The discussions on concepts worth fighting for, especially in real life, are niche.

A bit late to the party but I think a thorough understanding of history starting with the covid debacle, paired with a taste of real world dynamics would do the trick, but it has to be rooted in a deeper understanding of what freedom is. Without a freedom reference point, permissioned surveillance systems like social media look harmless.
