Will Mastodon, the platform that keeps the #Fediverse alive, miss a strategic opportunity to bring official institutions on board at scale? By watching how #EuroSky is being marketed compared to #Mastodon, it certainly seems that way. I wish the folks at Mastodon would invest in more professional marketing, similar to what we're seeing from its rival, Bluesky. There was a major meeting in the EU Parliament focused on this topic, yet there was no announcement or microblog post from Mastodon. Zero engagement. Compare these two approaches:

I just landed in Brussels to attend my first #FOSDEM. I think this is a pivotal year for open source in Europe. I hope to connect with nice people and projects. I also hope to find contributors to expand the statistics on European politicians who still use X.

It get's 855 MPs, which is clearly wrong - it should be 735. 📃.json The problems I see with using Wikidata are that it has too many duplicates and there is no email address. Also, likely the social medial links are less likely to be up to date. I will possibly have to scrape the Bundestag data, mainly to get the email addresses. Another reliable data source could be the endpoint of [@a_watch](

They don't provide emails or social media in their API end points. However, I could check the politicians' social media profiles on the profile pages of this project.
