We've preliminary found that TikTok is in breach of the DSA for its addictive design. There are important indicators of compulsive use of the app that TikTok has disregarded in its risk assessment. Key features of the addictive design: 🔹Infinite scroll 🔹Autoplay 🔹Push notifications 🔹Highly personalised recommender system We consider that TikTok needs to change the basic design of its service. TikTok can now exercise its right to examine and reply to the finding.

Today, the European Commission preliminarily found TikTok in breach of the Digital Services Act for its addictive design.
We stand in solidarity with EU countries. Together, we are holding online platforms accountable. Online platforms bring many benefits, but they also pose risks such as addictive features, harmful content, and threats to children, consumers, democracies, and elections. The DSA sets clear rules to protect everyone in the EU, from scams and dangerous products to freedom of expression and fair elections. Together, we are making the online environment in Europe safe, transparent, and trustworthy.
