Denmark’s Foreign Ministry has summoned U.S. Ambassador to Denmark Ken Howery to seek clarification over remarks made over the weekend by President Donald J. Trump’s newly appointed Special Envoy to Greenland, Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry, who said his part-time role is aimed at making Greenland part of the United States.
Trump’s decision to appoint Landry without consulting Denmark, along with comments made by the president today, has reignited tensions between the two allies, amid what Danish officials view as increasingly aggressive—if not belligerent—behavior by the Trump administration regarding Greenland.
