Canada forces companies to censor news unless it’s from pre-approved sources, apparently that includes entire countries. This started happening when there was a surge of non-government funded media which was getting more attention and saying not so nice things about trudeau. His ideas are so bad he has to give billions of printed and stolen dollars from the pre-approved CBC just so they can say how awesome he is. It’s literally their job to say nice things about him otherwise they would lose funding. This country is a clown show. This is why we need nostr. image

Not entirely, AFAIU. Canada tried to force Google/facebook/etc to pay media companies every time someone viewed news content via social media or search sites. In response, various social media sites simply stopped displaying any news to avoid having to pay. It was ultimately settled with a substantially watered down bill very recently, but I’m not sure if everything has been updated.

maybe I’m mixing this up with something else? trudeau at one point was trying to remove independent media licenses for non-government funded media like rebel news because they were the only ones asking hard questions during covid, and denied them access to press conferences and refused to answer questions from them. Thats what i was referring to, but may not be related directly to the instagram result, I assume its all related to the general attempt to centralize media so they can continue to lie to canadian citizens without pushback. Maybe @DETERMINISTIC OPTIMISM 🌞 has a better perspective, I find canadian politics mind numbing.
Never have I witnessed a more divisive Canadian government than Trudeau’s. Create more problems, spend endlessly, and endlessly blame. The Trudeau plot has been lost long ago.
