after uninstalling and reinstalling the software about 10 times with slightly different tweaks it seems to finally be working ...
of course it may stop working any time but it wasn't working before and now it is ...
so i count the Alienware as being fully setup for now - both hardware and software wise. I also put an MX Anywhere 3S mouse on it - i think that's the right mouse for my parents.
i use Razer mice on both my Desktops and MX Anywhere 3S on my laptop. it's surprisingly comfortable for how tiny it is and my parents have smaller hands than me.
