So pissed about this. What happened to free speech?
That never existed and they view providing privacy to people as a threat. Get your house in order
Working on it brother. Appreciate all you are doing in that venue.
Federal sentencing guidelines are bonkers. Also, my understanding is that they plead guilty but the gov't still sought max sentencing which is very unusual. Why would any defendant plead guilty and hope for the best from the Judge without somekind of concessions from the prosecution. Maybe I heard wrong
My understanding is that the other's took a plea deal, and Keonne Rodriguez didn't. He was the one sentenced today, and the other's tomorrow.
Such a shitty fucking case. I wish I knew why it wasn't dropped when it obviously should have been. I imagine if they had been more quiet and didn't invite russian oligarchs to use their service they might have been treated better, but politics in our judicial system is a fucking mess and this is how it goes I suppose.
In my mind, it's simple. They don't want us to be sovereign. They want complete control.
They're all psychopaths.
I agree with that, but I think it's secondary to punishing people who had the appearance of supporting an identified enemy. The types that push these kinds of efforts think short term for political gain. Most federal prosecuters are in that job to springboard to higher levels of power. Mostly likely they don't give a shit about any of the privacy stuff, but they do care about "winning" a high profile case.
Yea, I am not disagreeing with you. You're more than likely right. Just stating what I believe it all boils down to.
Which is why I do censor myself, somewhat. Unless I get three fingers of bourbon in me. ๐คฃ
Jason Lowery deserves credit for calling out the first amendmentโs susceptibility to changes in definitions.
Code is speech with a case law precedent but hell hath no fury like the voluntary incompetent.

What if you program an AI to encourage people to commit suicide succinctly? Should that be punished?

Developing software is not a crime. 1 day in court for developing software is utter horseshit
The powers that be will never allow to be challenged. Whether the defiant is a political whistleblower, a software dev or a blacksmith is irrelevant for them. The message is clear: you challenge the system, you are taken down.
That's why we need 1000s of samurais. The system must be overwhelmed.
This is why Satoshi disappeared.
Yep, not a good ruling.
Its evidence of a failed system.
There is a massive disconnect with technology in general and the decrepit politicians, judges, and people put in place to help "regulate" this types of issues. Sad day for humanity, but this will never stop open-source development.
And that's a ruling in the US, imagine what it would have been in europe

Wonder if bitcoiners will band together to cover his $250K fine after he gets out.

Amazing sofware
Code is speech.
Governments are the enemy of the freedom of speech, despite laws that ostensibly protect free speech.
