What I question, specific to the UK, if you look at state vs. Private ownership, we’ve also been moving in the opposite direction. Most utilities, rail, water, gas, steel etc. were state owned, the state sold them off from the 1980s onward. In most places there’s a weird hybrid where the state pays private contractors for services that were previously ‘in house’. The result is a lot of scamming and corruption and a lot of private profit taken from what’s still seen as public services. For the record, I think this system clearly sucks but your article doesn’t appear to recognise this relationship. Blair = Thatcher
