idea: iphone/android call feature where instead of initiating a call right away, it sends a “call request” text message that expires after N minutes. If the user clicks accept the call goes through. Would be a polite/more chill way to initiate a call

bestie and I already do this. We don't call each other without permission. "are you available to talk?" and then we negotiate from there 🤣 then I know if she calls me w/o permission it's a GD, defcon-5-level emergency. everyone in my family understands this except the (adult) kids. 😂 they get carte blanche. I have one friend who will *never* talk on the phone. We've been on a phone call ONCE in 15 years. it works. she just hates phone talks. 🤷‍♀️
