Yeah. We connect at multiple, significant levels. Bitcoiners tend to be higher in open mindedness, often guarded by robust discernment. As Austrian economists we tend to be libertarians who distrust the government, often to the point of being conspiracy theorists. Conspiracy theorists often do their due diligence, and they’re often smart, both of which are common Bitcoiner traits. Then the healthy side of the Bitcoin community makes almost too much sense in the light of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. Hodlers, executing the low time preference strategy, sacrifice the present for the future. Realizing they’re sacrificing creature comforts now, hodlers will often make the choice to dedicatedly improve their own physical health. Exercising and eating well may extend the hodlers lifespan, perhaps making up the time sacrificed up front executing the low time preference strategy. The Bitcoin metanoia is perhaps the deepest level. Hodlers, after all cycle or two, wind up with surplus discretionary capital and time to spend pursuing higher order and ultimate tier goals like love, legacy, and “self-actualization” i.e. kundalini/enlightenment.
In my opinion, bitcoin breeds a certain kind of freedom seeking individual, and when a bunch of those strong and emboldened type of individuals decide to gather and communicate, great things become of it. It is a different type of community than those where “all are in service to others before self”. In #BTC communities individual expression and freedom comes before the group’s priorities, and I think that makes for a more powerful state.
Agreed. I think as early adopters of Bitcoin we have a tendency to experience “Cassandra complex” where we try to help people with our knowledge of future events but they won’t listen. Likewise, no coiners who “know better” attempt to justify their ongoing choice to be a no coiner by propagandizing Bitcoiners and throwing shade at us for our suspect judgment. This kind of isolation coupled with the kind of success that tends to accompany hodling Bitcoin for a cycle or two does exactly what you said. I would say that Bitcoin attracts sigma personality types, but, more along the lines of what you said, Sparrow, Bitcoin also forges sigma personalities. The “have fun staying poor” retort to no coiners is about as sigma of a response as I can think 😆
I had to look up “sigma” personality, but I would say you are right. Perhaps that was part of my transformation with #BTC, is that I had to make a concerted effort to leave the liberal “hippie” mindset behind, and stop glorifying and morally justifying being broke, because it’s not fun, it’s not good for your health and well being, and it’s not taken advantage of the beautiful opportunities this life offers. And..I had children at a young age. Nothing motivates personal success and sovereignty more than your own family, and a lot of Millennials are missing that part.
