John Vervaeke's cognitive science reveals that true agency cannot be computed, only lived through caring organisms that realize relevance. This explains why Bitcoin's thermodynamic proof-of-work and Nostr's self-sovereign identity preserve human agency while algorithmic platforms capture and destroy it. The technologies that matter are those that protect the non-computational processes from which freedom emerges, transcending raw computational speed.

Seeing John’s ideas merge with bitcoin and Nostr is something special indeed. I had the very distinct pleasure of studying with him for my undergrad. John changed the course of my life, that’s no understatement. His frames and models have infiltrated my psyche and become the stage for new ways of thinking about the world. And it also helped steer me towards Bitcoin, even if he’s not explicitly a bitcoiner himself.
Studying with him must have been a pleasure!
An absolute pleasure. He also hosted weekly meditation and Tai Chi classes that made for a great addition to his scholarship.
