#nukestr
Oo exciting π³π₯
yes, if you could nuke all my typos too thatβd be swell
Tpyos are firever
Here for this π
I was thinking about this last night and the year itβs been, I wish there was a site where it could temporarily be archived, so it could be searchable for research and downloadable
yes, nuke it
Go, there are plenty of relays holding the data π
I'm still waiting for the first 10K Damus relay user badge π₯

Can somebody explain whats all about o going on. See a lot about nuking but dont 100% understand what will/could happen and what is meant bei that. That english isnt my native language doesnt make it better. What will it affect, will i recognaize it as a non tech guy, Do i have to make a New Account or loose follows/followers etc ?
You're using 18 more relays, you're goodπ
Use https://nostrsync.live/
Backup, download, update, restore all your data from all the relays.
Cool. Would be nice to be able to add custom relays to the export, or is that already supported?
Do it if you see a point in doing so. Just give everyone a good heads up first. ^^ nostr notes and an extra notification at least in the damus app
Two weeks notice maybe?
Why would people need that. I hope people arenβt solely relying on the damus relay for their stuff
I hope so to! But we don't know π€·
It being one of the largest relays, I just thought there could be a point to it.
Alt. just do it and let people learn the hard way x) But, some sort of heads up I think is better for relay reputation.
If you're using a free relay, I think it is to be expected to have no expectations on what happens to your notes
Yes I buy that argument, it's solid. We just don't know how many Damus users use nostr as if it's a twitter, and a normie user might think it works the same; then one day wake up with all notes gone. Then think, "naw bad quality service."
Due to Damus being one of the largest onboarding to nostr, and it being one of the largest relays; I think at least on the first data purge a notification could be prudent.
The notification could even mention; "On free relays beware data may be purged, here's a backup option, and remember to post to more than one relay. The Damus relay, is purged next week on xDay. Expect no notifications in the future."
heads up and a reminder that you can use to backup your #nostr data!!

Nostr Profile Manager
nostr.band says I have 2901 posts so Iβll be watching to see how much gets lost π
I assume they are also storing your notes if they have a count ?
@brugeman π
Maybe, I donβt know if they do!
We do store it
There were notes harmed in the making of this note
Maybe give a window for users to download notes? 7 days? Idk just thinking mostly about users who have only ever used Damus with the default 4 relays it comes configured with and donβt understand this part of nostr yet, or how to backup their data.
just an idea at this point
It's an important thing for users to consider. Some lessons are learned the hard way π
Do it. #nostr stress test.
nuke it!π
Do it! Don't warn anyone. It's an important lesson. More crying means more learning.
there's truth to this
Catholic education donβt lie! π
Build a relay that offloads the notes in a S3 type of bucket for vertical/horizontal scaling. It's just querying json data on the fly, no?
Might help with bandwidth too as it'd be static for egress and maybe even faster data query? Could use rumbledb.org
strfry is faster than any adhoc solution you throw together. Its faster than static reads
Ok!
You can start with nuking the oldest notes.
make a compressed file(s) of the notes to share before you nuke it.

Thanks for all your service to this community. We don't know what we don't know, and who knows how your contributions will effect future generations.
How about a rolling delete ?
With nostrdb it would be cool if Damus could backup all your notes locally similar to https://nostrsync.live/ that way normal people who wonβt run their own relays still have their content protected and the ability to rebroadcast everything.
Now youβre thinking π
Yes.
