My Nostr predictions for 2025 Exactly one year ago I published my Nostr predictions for 2024. Some came true, but most were, shall we say, aspirational, and, if we want to be generous, directionally correct. Happy to continue in the same vein and go out on a limb for 2025. Here we go, ordered by likelihood of coming true: 1. Primal will become much, MUCH better. Primal 3.0 will be a bigger leap forward than Primal 2.0 was. We will surprise everyone by the features, speed, level of polish, and ease of use. 2. Many other Nostr clients will impress by their progress in a relatively short time frame. If I had to pick one, I have a really good feeling about Highlighter. 3. Way more bitcoiners will join Nostr. While we currently only have a small subset of bitcoin enjoyers on Nostr, the new features and unique content will make Nostr irresistible to anyone interested in bitcoin. 4. Bitcoin-adjacent communities will start to discover and join Nostr. This will include health & wellness, financial twitter, human rights, libertarians, and other communities. As a result, the network will grow and become more formidable. 5. Spammers gonna spam. With the growth of the network, spammers will return in force. They will be sophisticated and relentless, putting all of our spam mitigation services to the test. 6. The Blossom protocol will make media hosting on Nostr much more robust and resistant to censorship. 7. Long form content will start to hit its stride on Nostr. This includes textual long form content (blogs, essays, articles, etc.) as well as long form video content. 8. Multiple Nostr projects will find effective and ethical ways to monetize, marking a watershed moment for the protocol. We will witness the formation of the first cohort of real businesses on Nostr, signaling the inevitable changing of the guard and the eventual extinction of the Legacy Web. 9. Nostr will experience a glimpse of what a โ€˜suddenlyโ€™ mainstream adoption moment looks like. 10. By the end of the year, everyone - even the haters - will realize that Nostr is going to win. 11. @ODELL will accuse me of not being bullish enough. One thing is certain: we will keep pushing until we will this thing into existence. ๐Ÿค Anyhow, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Pura Vida, and Peace and Love to you all! โ™ฅ๏ธโ˜€๏ธ

May your positive words rooted in the power of your abilities and your team be strongly fertilized - because there is always a lot of power in our โ€œwordsโ€. Nostr has a lot of value to be unlocked, and this drive is happening in time; robust and disruptive. All those who join us here will have their value multiplied, as a growing and self-impact community for the other environments - which will inevitably use our clone metrics for their still resistant environments! Let 2025 come, here I am - and there we will be.
Your 2025 predictions are ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿซก ! Hereโ€™s my take on a few of them: โ€ข Primalโ€™s leap forward: Iโ€™m pumped to see what Primal 3.0 brings. If itโ€™s as transformative as you predict, it could redefine expectations for what a Nostr client can achieve. โ€ข Bitcoiners and adjacent communities: Spot on. As the network grows, the mix of bitcoiners and like-minded groups will amplify Nostrโ€™s cultural and intellectual diversity. Itโ€™ll be fascinating to watch these communities shape the platform in real time. โ€ข Spam challenges: You nailed itโ€”scaling comes with growing pains, and spam is inevitable. But seeing how creative the Nostr community has been, Iโ€™m confident weโ€™ll rise to the challenge. . Monetization and real businesses: This could be the game-changer. Once ethical monetization models emerge, itโ€™ll be impossible for skeptics to ignore the viability of Nostr as a true web alternative. . Mainstream adoption moment: Even a small โ€œsuddenlyโ€ could validate so much of the hard work and belief people have put into Nostr. That moment canโ€™t come soon enough! And finally, @ODELL probably will say youโ€™re not bullish enough, but these predictions already have me fired up. Cheers to a big 2025! ๐Ÿซก
Another idea. What if the primal logo was more dynamic, perhaps reflecting how strong the connection is between device and the relays we have on our network list. If it shows green, we have a good connection, if it shows red, there's something going on. This would be more useful than our profile icon on mobile, and would always be visible on the web app.
@miljan looking into 2025 and onwards, i think what @primal and, by extension, Nostr need is better marketing and onboarding experiences. Like for example, i entered Primal's website after a Google search and I arrived on a not so user friendly feed, with no explanation of what the service actually is and what it provides. Why not add a brief sexy marketing front page which describes what Primal is for new comers? Which would then also provide a more pleasing call to action to sign up? Maybe also explaining the Nostr Connect alternative, which btw i still don't understand how to use and which key storage services currently exist. And I am already a Nostr user, so how do you expect new people to understand how all of this works? Anyway, my point is, you've done a wonderful job so far of creating a beautifully crafted Nostr app and service, but if you want it to succeed, somebody needs to deploy ample amounts of money and bring in some brilliant marketing minds in order to push this project further. Otherwise it will end up in a similar fashion as Ubuntu/Linux on desktop did. Used only by fanboys and never becoming mainstream.
