You are correct, your nsec is the one you need to keep private. However, you also need to enter your nsec in any mobile app, or web based clients like coracle or primal web to be able to make posts. So, you have to trust the website or app with your nsec. You'll be fine using your nsec with primal, you can trust them, but anything new, or interesting but you don't think you can trust it, don't use your nsec. However... here's the good news. There are things called signers. They can be an app on your phone like Amber, a browser plugin like nos2x or Alby. They can even be a hardware device that sits on your desk. You enter your nsec into the signer, and that's it. When you want to use primal, instead of using your nsec, use the signer login option. Your signer will ask you to approve the login, and your in. You can log into almost all nostr shit using your signer and nothing you sign into can do anything without you knowing about it. The app or website has to send an authorization request to your signer and you approve or deny it. This keeps your nsec secure but also gives you full access to any app or website you use it with. I now use Amber on my phone as my signer. I have used the Alby browser plugin in the past.

Thanks so much... clearly I did not read all the micro copy... just the first part... my bad. Big Up Yourself! It starts by saying use your Npub or address and then at the end of two lines it says OR your Nsec IF you want to post --- which assumes that I am a lurker from the start...Interesting UX Design, but not what one would expect, did they do any research on the sign in process? Are most users simply lurking?
Nostr kinda sucks. There's no company in charge spending hundreds of millions of venture capital dollars on slick UI's and Superbowl advertising. Nostr rocks because there's no company in charge spending hundreds of millions of venture capital dollars on slick UI's that spy on everything you do while algorithms push the latest fashionable agenda on you. What you get is a bunch of people giving up their free time to develop apps for nostr because they like what nostr can do. They don't have any money for research and development. At best, a bunch of them will meet up at some cafe and discuss ideas over coffee and donuts. The best part is, you can get involved too. Tell them your ideas. They'll listen. They're a bit nerdy, but an alright bunch of people. Think of nostr like driving. First you have to learn to drive. Complicated at first, but you get used to it pretty quickly. Now you have the option to drive many different types of car. You're free to change cars, have more than one car etc. And you have a massive road network that you can explore. You'll get lost. You'll get bored. Your car will break down. You'll discover lots of wonderful people and places along the way. For example, I'll listen to a nostr live music stream while I am sim racing. Was using Spotify before. Now I use nostr. For recipes, zap.cooking is my only goto now. There's literally a ton of other things you can do on nostr other than this chat function that we're using here. But, it's like treasure you have to go and find. image
