For anyone who wants to better understand how Bitcoin consensus works, @Lyn Alden and @moneyball did a fantastic analysis in 2024 (linked in Lyn’s note below). I had them both on @THE Bitcoin Podcast shortly after to discuss the paper in detail.
I highly recommend you take the time to read the paper, listen to the episode, or both. You will come away with a much better understanding of how Bitcoin consensus works, be better able to analyze current debates within Bitcoin, and be better prepared for potential hard or soft forks.
