That is actually good question: what is the source and what the effect? Both regimes did not respect the property rights. Above that they did not respect any human rights. Private property was only for the few of the rulling class. This lead to extraction of hard money (gold) by any means. Paper worthless money for the pleb while gold for the rullers. Whoever opposed was thrown to jail/ concentration camp/ gulag and eventually killed. By the way I would like to remind some of the dates from 100 years ago As time passed the regimes had to look for more victims outside their borders. Russians started their assault on Europe just after they felt they won civil war - 1920. They failed in Poland and did not have a chance to reach Germany. Anyway they succeeded on eastern parts of Ukraine and Belarus. Poland and Baltic states had to wait. Then Germans since Hitler came to power in 1933 in 6 years took over Austria and Czechoslovakia and then started WW2 1sep 1939. But let’s not forget their allies - Russians - who were also with them but waited till 17Sep 1939 to invade Poland, Wetern Ukraine, Western Belarus and Baltics. Russians also invaded Finnland. And then what they previously were doing to their citizens was done in excess to the conquered countries. Socialists, communists, nazis,whatever you name them, the same modus operandi.
