I donated to the first #MST3k Kickstarter, but ultimately I wasn't really a fan of what they ended up making. It's nobody's fault. The on-camera cast was top notch. Wasn't nuts about the new Crow/Tom voices, but I gave them a chance -- I wasn't into Bill Corbett's Crow initially, now I love 'em as much as Trace's. But the new ones never clicked, and the greater fiction around it just kinda... meh. But the real important part, the riffs, were hit or miss, but generally mediocre to me. There's other little nitpicks I could get into, but that's the gist. So I didn't help fund the subsequent Kickstarter campaigns. Meanwhile, #Rifftrax -- sans lovable robots or other gimmicks -- has remained solid as hell over the years, and continues to crank out comedy gold to this day. So. Take that as you will. But also take this: THEY'RE TOGETHER AGAIN for a brief run! Where do I slide my credit card?! WHERE DO I SLIDE IT?? ;)

ZOMG hope this makes it across the protocol bridge... I'm in the same camp, donated to the Gizmoplex Kickstarter, and was roundly disappointed by the product. It was just too twee, self-amused, and quite frankly, "soft"... It completely lacked the hard satirical edge of the best of the Mike era, which is my favorite MST3K run. I'm not sure what exactly made it such a milquetoast product, but I strongly suspect it was Joel "laugh with the movie not at it" Hodgson's influence. Plus, perhaps a sort of "woke" sensibility about the idea of "punching down" at bad movies from a position of cultural prominence conspired to water things down. I agree that Rifftrax has mostly picked up the slack, although at times it's veered in the opposite direction -- too loud and bombastic, and lacking the cultural sophistication of 90's MST. But Mike at the helm plus the MST3K brand? "SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!"
