Hey all, I’m excited to share something I’m working on. It is a scientific research journal built on nostr. I think nostr is the perfect architecture to build something that does research publishing better than what is the standard right now. To name a few key things I envision with this project: 1. Research accessible by anyone. Scientific knowledge should not be restricted to a select few. This is not to say that there isn’t value in expertise, but to say that there is also value in diversity of thought that can only come from those who were not educated in the same system as many experts. 2. Comments can be left to explain, criticize, suggest research ideas to a specific part of a paper using highlights. 3. Research moves faster because it is cheaper and easier to publish, and becuase more people can interact with it. I’ve had this project in mind for quite a while, practically since I first learned about nostr. I don’t know how to code though. So this project is my first real foray into vibe coding. That being said, this project barely works when I use it, and likely won’t work when you try it. Further, it is currently a very limited version of what I believe a research journal built on nostr can be. I am posting this, in part, as a bookmark. I have other priorities right now and will not continue working on this project at least until January. I do plan to return to it and make it something great. I really do believe in it. I hope to continue building and sharing my vision for this, and I hope to talk more with you all about it. I know many of you have some serious developer/nostr wisdom that I want to make use of. I’ve built a client that you can access here: It currently has a lot of papers I published while building and testing different features. Please excuse that mess. I also built an associated relay: wss://nostr-research-relay.duckdns.org

Thanks @ChadF and 33 others works now without vercel login! @Carson a couple of suggestions based off my experience testing a few nostr apps: 1. Dont require login for lurkers, who are considering using your app. I.e. remove the nostr login gate. Build off nostr’s strength of openness - nostr academicstr should be publicly readable. If people want to participate, then they can opt to login to reply, highlight, comment etc 2. Add a sample research paper that is displayed by default! This β€œdemo” should be on display as to demonstrate the use case of your app
Seems interesting. Tried to take a look but I couldn't log in. What are all of those different log in methods? Is one of those a NOSTR ID log in? I don't want to use a Google ID to log in because Google is "big tech". GitHub is too intimidating to even navigate. It's like a "lingo jungle" that is impassable for us relative normies who don't have a lingo machete. I don't know what any of the log in methods are other than that and 2 of the login methods are unlabeled....they just have a picture. This seems like a cool site. I wish I could access it with my NOSTR ID.
UPDATE: The first 3 times I visited the site, all I got was a bunch of log in options that didn't look like the "log in with the Alby browser extension" button that I needed. I was about to give up but I decided to try clicking the site URL one more time. That time, the site apparently noticed my browser extension and gave me a "log in with Alby browser extension" button. Not sure what the hell happened but I probably couldn't log in again if I tried.
Amazingly intuitive and needed. I do the Social Media for #AnabolicDoc and #Testosteronology. Currently the largest survey in history is underway to benchmark the silent epidemic of Steroid abuse in youth and the Wild West Broscience as well as the rogue TRT clinics. Most have no idea how Women are massively underserved and dangerously prescribed Hormones from Quacks! I am discussing bringing Testosteronology into NOSTR because we are getting banned all over!!
#asknostr Can anyone tell me what all of the different log in methods are on this site Carson made? Am I missing the "log in with your NOSTR ID" option? Is the NOSTR ID login option poorly named such that if you don't already know the name of that particular login option, it is not apparent that that login option is for NOSTR ID logins? It is one of the things that's not labeled and only has a picture? I'm not using google to log in and I don't have a Github account because Github is intimidating AF for me to even look at, let alone attempt to navigate. View quoted note β†’
You'll need to provide an automatically structured format that forces researchers (and idiots who think they are scientists) to present their data accurately and not misleadingly. If you can do that, major kudos. Otherwise this is going to be far too niche to take off.
