SPAM, FILTERS..a lot of words, but it's as always all about incentives.
Check the real incentive behind any decision a side is taking, don't be mislead by noises and long talks.
What those people do behind the scenes? What they built and are building? What is the leitmotiv of their actions?
And then, ask yourself, what is your incentive and why you use bitcoin, what was your purpose, what is your goal?

Even if core was perfect and all the Devs were good honest people who put the health of the system before their own ability to extract profits from people, it would still be a good idea to run knots or another program just for the sake of decentralisation.
If everyone runs core(and most nodes do) then core becomes a single point of failure where everyone shares the same vulnerabilities.
One solution would be to have a like for like of core that is developed with a different runtime. This way the nodes all function this same way but they don't have the same vulnerability. At this point the choices made by boyb Core and Knots don't inspire trust. I only trust the node runners themselves at this point.
