Was there any doubt?
Time for people to find and support alternatives.
@npub18s4z...ydrt it's your time to shine with Drive.
Wouldnβt be nice to have a FOSS privacy oriented iOS alternative with the same level of hardware used by Appleβ¦
You mean... A jailbreak?
Steve Jobs would have never agreed to this. Tim Cook should rename himself to Tim Cuck.
I believe that. RIP.
Wasnβt Tim Cuck also assisting the Chinese government in tracking people at some point? Yeah I agree, Steve Jobs would never have this.
Hello slippery slope. I smell trust being flushedβ¦.

UK caved to authoritarianism
The cloud is just someone elseβs computer
Centralization is weak⦠again
Iβm gonna go get an android today
*Checks second hand google pixel prices*
this is the way.
TFW you realize that Google cloud was unencrypted the whole time
All in a desperate attempt to stop "far right thugs" from being critical of the government.
βExisting users' access will be disabled at a later date.β
How are they gonna do this? If thereβs no back door, they canβt decrypt my data, right?
Will they just delete my files or cut me off if I donβt provide the key?
The creep of authoritarianism knows no bounds.
that's what i was thinking too. im wondering if a system update could trigger the decryption.
Yeah, the update just triggers one of my devices to turn off the encryption?
Sounds a bit like a back door though.
It would only be a true backdoor I guess if they forced the update upon you.
Ha youβre right. So by me βdecidingβ to update my system, I basically agree to the decryption.
Evil.
Yep. They'll probably put that in the upgrade EULA. I could absolutely see that happening. Almost no one reads them. People mostly upgrad their devices. I don't know how else this forced action is accomplished without a true backdoor.
Apple will prevent Apple IDs from working until you disable the feature (unspecified) probation period.
They did a similar thing for older Apple devices where ADP was not supported but you used an account with it enabled. This can space time for users to delete their accounts or disable all cloud features should they want to.
There's no specific time on when it goes from being forced, but Apple is claiming to release documentation for off boarding UK users in the future. Currently UK users are saying their ADP is still on for now, but has an alert saying new users cannot enable it.
I dunno why I am so annoyed by this, but no: caving would have been compromising encryption with a backdoor. They went with the only other option available to them, which was to pull encryption altogether.
exactly!
Nuance is hard for the Android crowd. They ought to be asking themselves why the UK didnβt even need to demand Google create a backdoor.
This is fucken disappointing on Apple. Im gonna have to reconsider my decision going forward with any Apple products and services
UK is a dystopia
Iβm assuming passwords and keychain are still encrypted in the iCloud?
βSome types of data will still be end-to-end encrypted in the U.K. by default, Apple said, including passwords on the iCloud Keychain, information on the Health app, and communications on services including iMessage and FaceTime.β
Will this be enough for the "freedom lovers" to get out of that shit ecosystem? Time will tell.
Did they give them a back door?
Thankfully not, but removing privacy features from entire countries is pretty bad too. It worrying that although the UK is tiny country they can't risk ignoring pressure from its regime.
put down the mobile device and you won't get hurt
i can't believe i have to explain this to people
these devices have been thoroughly weaponised against you
just
stop
using
them
install linux on your laptop or desktop pc
deprecate your mobile to being purely for SMS and voice calls
go walk around and touch grass and go swimming and commune with the creation of your creator
Yea, this sucks for sure!
Incredibly disappointing.
its unfortunate that non of the large companies want to shake status quo. although if they did someone could get assassinated.
someone like apple could just say fuck you. political pressure from people living in uk would be enormous towards their government.
How did Apple Cave? Agency said create a back door and they didnβt. They went to court and as a final option they simply removed the feature. Now everyoneβs data in UK will have standard encryption for which the keys will be shared with law enforcement. Better than a back door to end to end encryption. If anyone is to be blame itβs the UK government and its policies.
Back door only used to catch a serious criminal . I think .
Itβs probably good idea to catch all that gang raped in the UK
UK caved. When will you rise against this tyranny?
Yikes
