Translation of this excellent post by @Nicole Nowak ๐Ÿงกโœจ๐Ÿ™ Are you one of the 15%? Thankfully, my interest in Bitcoin and the community always flushes inspiring people into my life - also this week: a very well-read and experienced psychotherapist. She spoke of a psychological phenomenon that reappears again and again: the ratio of 85 to 15. A famous example of this is the Milgram experiment from the 1960s. Psychologist Stanley Milgram wanted to know how far people go if they are supposed to obey a person of authority โ€“ even if it means inflicting pain on another person. The shocking realisation: Around 85% of the participants followed the instructions and supposedly administered stronger and stronger power surges - although they heard that the "experimental person" (in truth an actor) was screaming and begging. Only 15% refused to continue. They opposed peer pressure and authority. Many other psychological studies come to similar results: The majority of people follow - often without question. Only a small part resists. 85 to 15. The psychologist said something that really touched me โ€“ and have been very busy ever since: "The Bitcoiners belong to the 15% for me." And I think that could be true. Bitcoin is a silent protest and a peaceful act of resistance. Against central money creation and inflation. Against financial repression. For self-determination. For freedom. For a more just world. Perhaps we actually belong to the 15% who do not (anymore) participate - but question, always learn, and consciously choose which way they take. I asked her further if she believes that this ratio โ€“ 85 to 15 โ€“ will ever change. And here, too, she had a fascinating and clear answer: "I don't think so. Unless humanity makes a spiritual leap.โ€ Where would you place yourself? --- I share these and other stories in my newsletter โ€“ with Voice-Over (Sundays on Substack) and on NOSTR (Mondays). nostr: View quoted note โ†’
