In the next week (or two) we would like to start onboarding our initial Creators to our new patreon style relay.
Content creators will be able to create subscription tiers and associate notes/content with a tier. Those notes will only be shared with their subscribers at or above that tier. We will also be able to serve PPV content on behalf of our creators. The relay can be accessed from any nostr client!
If you are a content creator of any kind and interested in monetizing on nostr please send me a DM!

Nice 🍊
Will you try in some way to stop rebroadcasting this notes to other relays?
How would you do that?
*these notes
We aren’t able to stop event rebroadcasting without breaking the event so we won’t do that. Instead we can control access to the files themselves.
This doesn’t solve long form text type content but they could always put it in a txt/pdf/etc if they were concerned about rebroadcasting. At the end of the day, we can’t defeat copy paste or screenshot/save. Most people who choose to support a creator voluntarily won’t spoil the fun.
Thanks for answering! 🫂
Ou of curiosity, how would you control access to the files?
- NIP-95 + relay Auth?
- Or HTTP Auth?
Both are good options (NIP-95 for smaller files). Eventually, we’d like to support both. For now it will be http and access controlled on our end until clients support the proposed NIP-98 or something similar.
Our focus is client interoperability for now but as new standards are adopted we will support them.
Interesting, so this is a relay only content creators with a subscription can post to and only readers with another type of subscription can read?
Can you explain the different type of subscription? Is a follow a free subscription?
The creators won’t need a subscription, they’ll be selling subscriptions to their supporters. They will get to pick their own tiers/prices/perks.
Anyone will be able to access the relay but only can view content for creators they’ve subscribed to. We are going to have some type of content available to users with no subscriptions (global feed with ‘free’ content to help promote creators) but still sorting the details.
Ok sounds good, what’s your incentive?
We’re going to take a percentage of each subscription for hosting the content + the relay. We have a few other ideas to monetize eventually but thats the main one.
So you become the gatekeeper and creators becomes your defacto slaves AGAIN 😆
Bit extreme. We’re offering content hosting and a service so it’s not going to be free. There are lots of advantages to this model over the existing solutions like client interoperability and free flow of zaps/tips post subscription. Since we don’t have to process fiat our net cut will be much smaller.
Can you at least let us release it before you start hating?
V4V, sats for hosting content, that is totally fair. I like @Mazin idea. If you don't like the terms, too expensive, whatever, then you are free to host your own solution. Nostr is great that way.
Can’t please em all! We would never discourage creators from running their own relay and file host but we’re going to provide something for those who don’t wish to or cannot.
Makes sense #[2], like Substack also. Just an idea but like Substack it would help creators to promote the service if they can offer a free subscription. One of the other good things about Substack is the discoverability, have you any ideas how you could help creators be found?
Don’t worry, just reread the thread and you’ve already answered these
Is “adult content” (porn) welcome?
Yes sir. There will be some additional rules for NSFW content (we need to KYC/age verify the creators). New users who connect to the relay will need to verify they are of age + consent to seeing NSFW content before they will be able to view the adult creators.
Have you consulted a lawyer? Running a legal creator site is easier said than done. Adult content makes it 10x more complicated. Since you’re literally hosting the content and controlling access to it, you’ll be liable. If you need recommendations for good First Amendment lawyers with exactly this kind of experience, I can give some names.
We’ve done some preliminary work on this front but there’s plenty more to do. The onboarding process is going to be manual while we sort through challenges. Feel free to pass on recommendations though, thats helpful.
Two First Amendment lawyers I can strongly recommend are (in no particular order)…
Corey Silverstein
Larry Walters
https://firstamendment.com
Both are easy to talk to and I believe the first consultation is free. (Or maybe they charge $1 to make it official).
Paying a little bit now for advice and an airtight TOS could save you a bundle down the road (not to mention the headaches). But one advantage you have over their other clients is you don’t have to deal with Visa & Mastercard.
I know another lawyer who I’d recommend as well, but I think he’s mostly a litigator. Corey & Larry are probably better for the contractual stuff.
That reminds me - it might be a good idea to join the Free Speech Coalition.
They are the group that fights legal battles in the courts for the porn industry. Joining shows you’re serious about doing things right and in the past there have been times when being a member gives you additional legal coverage since while they’re fighting it out they often get court orders that exempt their members until the case is over.
There’s also the ASACP - which is specifically aimed at combatting CSAM. But my opinion of them is pretty low. (They refused to give input on content moderation for Nostr).

Yes - perhaps not popular in Japan but basically https://www.patreon.com/ as a relay.
interesting🤔
This is cool. Is there anything stopping someone from re-broadcasting to other (perhaps public) relays.
Not without breaking the events and we don’t plan on doing that. We are going to protect the content linked in the events, not necessarily the notes themselves.
For long form text creators, they will need to choose between interoperability and restricting access (by using a txt/pdf/etc instead of a long term note).
You and #[2] prove time and time again both that you are paying attention to the community and that you can deliver. Makes me proud to be a 🍷subscriber.
Appreciate you as always. We’ve been struggling to get through this one a bit but I promise it will be worth the wait.
This seems like something that could be huge for #Nostr

, 🔥🔥🔥
This is cool. Super excited for the future of #nostr.
Thank you! We hope it can bring in a new wave of creators to this lovely protocol.
An important step in the direction of paid content & v4v economy. Could be a potential game changer for #nostr & help purple pilling all sorts of content creators. The critical aspect, IMHO, is how the monetization works in detail for both the relay owner & the content creator.
I’d like to learn more about this.
Should have more specifics soon! Still lots of small things to finalize. We talked about it a bit on the 24h nest: https://rss.com/podcasts/frogtalk/931640/
Great move! We need tool like that.
Look what Ghost became starting with an open source project and following the content monetization path.

This is awesome! Will follow with great interest and promote where possible. Have you got a URL to share externally?
Thanks for the interest. Not yet, but very soon!

Huge…Supporting creators is core to sustaining good content on nostr…
Agreed! We hope it helps onboard lots of new people to nostr. Does current support NIP-42? It will be required to access the relay.
Got the wallet connect functionality in. Should be easy for nostr.wine monthly subscriptions. Just support a way to input wallet connect link. You can then auto invoice every month..

Very cool! Will look in to this.
Great! Working on something similar. The more the better. Hope to see more technical details :)
