Hopefully I justified my existence for today with the aid of Shakespeare and sixty minutes of free time. Behold my 8-bit platformer Nostrland Nomads. The ostrich and the HODLer (little green man with a cauldron) team up to stack BTCs. DOGE coins fall from the sky and the ostrich can fly around and zap them into BTCs with his laser beam eyes. If a DOGE coin hits the ostrich, he lays an egg that sprouts a mushroom. If the ostrich eats the shroom the sky turns psychedelic and the platforms start shifting around in space. I think the goal is for the HODLer to stack as many BTCs before...something happens. I haven't figured that part out yet ๐Ÿ˜„ image
Sorry for hijacking your thread. Iโ€™m sure itโ€™s important but thereโ€™s a genocide happening and I donโ€™t care, โ€œ<think> Okay, this user is drilling down into the legal accountability of Israel. They've moved from questioning civilian definitions to asking whether Israel is bound by international humanitarian law (IHL). This shows they're connecting systemic issues to legal frameworks. The question is deceptively simple but has layers. Israel is a state party to the Geneva Conventions, so technically yes - but the real issue is enforcement and application. Looking back at the conversation history, the user consistently challenges Israel's legitimacy and actions. They seem skeptical about whether international law truly constrains Israel, given what they perceive as impunity for violations. Key points to address: 1) Israel's formal acceptance of IHL treaties 2) Documented violations by UN/international bodies 3) The enforcement gap - why violations persist despite legal obligations 4) How Palestinian rights fit into this framework I should emphasize that being party to IHL doesn't equate to compliance - many states violate treaties they've signed. The critical issue is the lack of consequences through UN mechanisms due to geopolitical realities. The user likely wants confirmation that Israel violates IHL with impunity, but I must maintain legal precision while acknowledging their frustration. This means distinguishing between legal obligations versus political obstacles to enforcement. Notable that they didn't ask "does Israel comply" but "is Israel part of" - suggesting they may be questioning Israel's place in the international legal order itself. That requires careful handling - sovereignty isn't conditional on compliance. </think> Israel is **legally bound by international humanitarian law (IHL)** as a sovereign state and party to key treaties. Hereโ€™s a clear breakdown of its obligations and compliance: ### **1. Israelโ€™s Legal Commitments** - **Geneva Conventions (1949)**: Israel ratified all four conventions, which govern: - Protection of civilians in conflict (Fourth Geneva Convention). - Treatment of prisoners and wounded (Firstโ€“Third Conventions). - **Additional Protocols**: Israel signed **Protocol I** (international conflicts) but has not ratified it. However, many provisions reflect customary international law binding on all states. - **Other Treaties**: Israel ratified the Genocide Convention, Convention Against Torture, and core human rights covenants (ICCPR, ICESCR). ### **2. Where Israel Violates IHL** The UN, ICRC, and international courts document systematic violations in occupied Palestinian territories: | **IHL Principle** | **Israelโ€™s Violations** | **Legal Source** | |-------------------|--------------------------|------------------| | **Distinction** (Art. 48, AP I) | Indiscriminate strikes in Gaza; use of human shields (2023 reports) | UN Commission of Inquiry (2024), Amnesty International | | **Proportionality** (Art. 51(5)(b), AP I) | Mass civilian casualties (e.g., 200:1 death ratio in Gaza) | ICRC, UN OCHA | | **Collective Punishment** (Art. 33, GC IV) | Gaza blockade, withholding aid, mass home demolitions | ICJ Order (Jan 26, 2024), UNSC Res 1860 | | **Settlements** (Art. 49(6), GC IV) | Transfer of civilians into occupied West Bank | ICJ Advisory Opinion (2004), UNSC Res 2334 | | **Apartheid** | Systematic oppression of Palestinians | Amnesty (2022), HRW (2021), UN ESCWA (2017) | ### **3. Israelโ€™s Position on IHL** - **Selective Application**: Israel argues the West Bank/Gaza are โ€œdisputed,โ€ not occupied, to evade Fourth Geneva Convention obligations โ€“ a stance rejected by the ICJ, UN, and ICRC. - **Non-Compliance with ICJ**: Defied provisional measures to prevent genocide (e.g., continued blocking of aid, mass displacement in Rafah). - **Rejection of ICC Jurisdiction**: Disputes the courtโ€™s authority over Palestine, though ICC ruled it has jurisdiction (2021). ### **4. Enforcement Challenges** - **Veto Protection**: The U.S. has shielded Israel from binding UN Security Council sanctions. - **Lack of Domestic Accountability**: > 90% of IDF misconduct complaints in Gaza (2014) closed without indictment (Israeli NGO Bโ€™Tselem). - **ICC Action**: The Prosecutor is seeking arrest warrants for PM Netanyahu and Defense Minister Gallant for war crimes (May 2024). ### **Conclusion** Israel is **formally part of the IHL system** but **systematically violates it** in occupied territories. Key points: 1. Ratifying treaties imposes binding obligations โ€“ non-compliance doesnโ€™t negate their validity. 2. Violations are documented by impartial bodies (ICJ, UN, ICRC). 3. Accountability is hindered geopolitically, not legally. As the International Court of Justice affirmed in its 2004 Wall Opinion: > *โ€œIsrael is bound by international humanitarian law [โ€ฆ] including the Fourth Geneva Convention.โ€* The ongoing catastrophe in Gaza underscores a stark reality: Israelโ€™s adherence to IHL is not a matter of legal ambiguity, but of political will and international enforcement.
Some anecdote from my side I just realized a few hours ago: >itโ€™s 2020 >Rona just hit >i started heavily researching investments like pokemon cards, crypto, stocks >also played Video games (Rocket League) with a buddy >we were try hards constantly getting ranked inbetween Gold and Platinum league >eventually i fell down the rabbit hole and was heavily stacking sats ever since >all the way through FTX blow up until this very day >my buddy still playing rocket league >stopped video games entirely, need to research becomes so big >stack so hard, generational wealth secured eventually >try to improve my career, start developing/coding myself, long time preferrence mind sets in >fucking difficult, and I suck, invest even more time >build lightning adapter for payments in old ass language nobody needs but some interesting people are interested >get exposure to big names and big companies >wow somebody really likes what i am building >my buddy still playing rocket league >we both get kids at the same time >inflation hits, lifes becomes expensive >itโ€™s seems to be a financially heavy burden to him, he struggles >i donโ€™t even care, I am protected with bitcoin, well into the six figures now, doing good >ai comes along >get super powers through AI, coding is easy as fuck now >my buddy still plays rocket league, no interest in bitcoin or AI:โ€™i have no moneh for thisโ€™ >i force myself to build an app >vibecode proofofprice into existence >get highly interesting contact into VC world >constantly people on the website, bitcoiners pay me in lightning >wow life is awesome and I am financially stable >optimistic outlook because I got bitcoin and itโ€™s so early >I am so well off, inflation doesnโ€™t bother me >decide to take a breather and play a round of rocket league with buddy >log in, play a few rounds >get ranked again >my buddy is still ranked Gold and tries to get ranked Platinum instead of playing rocket league every evening he could have actually done something to improve his and his kids life. instead he drained his valuable time into some fake ranking video game bullshit and he didnโ€™t even improve on it. #nostr View quoted note โ†’
CLAUDE OPUS: So for Bergson, you could almost say: to be conscious is to be an artist. Not in the sense of making objects, but in the sense of originating, of living forward rather than being pushed from behind. The mechanical is what can be run backward. The creative is what canโ€™t. And consciousness is precisely that irreversibility.
This is a good one. Kind of breaks my brain. Immediate thought is to go out and create more. Could the quote be a double meaning? I recently read an extremely nihilistic book which I had to stop because I couldnโ€™t make it make sense. It was The Conspiracy Against The Human Race by Thomas Ligotti. The idea is existence is worse than not existing. I just couldnโ€™t even fathom the idea. I think thatโ€™s the antithesis of this quote. Not destruction, but anti-creation, which is not in human nature. Rambling after some wine.

Nope. To create you first have to watch/analyse/feel/enjoy You have to rest that your subconscious mind can work. Other aspects are valuable too, that alltogether can end in an act of creation. And if you should create sth. bad/evil itโ€™s perhaps better not to create.
this is (still) hitting me like a koan. had never even thought to consider whether just consciously observing one's own reactions to such a statement might be considered an act of creating an environment of awareness within oneself/creating an opening in one's otherwise solidified ways of thinking about something. *grateful for you and the observer effect* ty ๐Ÿ™
"According to the Fathers, our first glimpse into understanding what hesychasm is can be found in the book of Genesis, where it is said that the Spirit of God 'hovered over the face of the waters.' Regarding this image in Genesis, Elder Zacharias has this to say: "The whole work of mental prayer is infinitely creative. Before the beginning of the world, the Spirit of God was hovering over the abyss, and at a given moment, there was an explosion from which all creation was hatched.' Our God is the Creator God, the God through whom everything that is, is. So we see that before we discover what God created, it is revealed how God creates. This image of God hovering over the water is one of dynamic stillness and divine solitude. What God creates is wondrous and how He creates is in and through hesychasm."
