I really LOVE using the Daylight Computer with its LivePaper Display (DC-1, @daylightco) ... for many reasons, proven over time:
- It has become my no. 1 reading device, even for fiction bed time reading. The disruptive blue light effect from regular screens, especially when using them at night, is absolutely real. And with the DC-1 that all too familiar feeling of burning eyes, tired wide-awakeness just isn't there anymore. I get healthily drowsy while reading, I put it aside and fall asleep, like with a paper book. No circadian rhythm disruption noticed. Not sure, how well that amber background light will be for my eye-sight over time when using it in pitch darkness too often, but that's a different question.
- It's the most natural digital hand writing experience I ever had. In some aspects even better than on paper, because it's easier on the hand muscles due to less friction. My hand writing is distinctly my very own personal hand writing, no alteration because of the fact that I'm writing on a screen - really pretty, and that white stylus that comes in the box has an erase button that works like a charm. On the picture you can see me watching a Wim Hof presentation while making hand written notes in split screen - marvelous!
- Who would have guessed, it works perfectly in daylight and direct sunlight. Yes, it even begs for it. It doesn't heat up much in the sun which you can imagine living in Greece, these are fantastic properties. For me, working in bright light and outdoors is just happiness for the soul. Super valuable once you experience it!
- It feels like I'm working with a proper digital paper device, like a lovely work machine, if you know what I mean, a pretty work horse. Not a shiny, too beautiful, distractive luxury object. Yep, I plead guilty of having marveled daily at some pieces of tech for their sheer beauty, like that black slab pebble of a Galaxy S8 at the time.
- But unlike other e-ink tablets such as the reMarkable with their custom limited OS, the DC-1 runs 60Hz-snappy clean Android. And whatever I feel comfortable doing on a monochrome screen I can DO. I feel free with it!
It doesn't replace my phone or laptop, I just need color at times. But I feel comfortable switching to a healthy, humanity respecting digital companion as often as I can ... and it turns out I can A LOT. I'm less tired when using it, more diligent and creative. I also don't put any too internet heavy or social apps on it, so it becomes like a focus device.
For me as a health conscious coach, this buy was totally worth it. The Daylight Computer successfully fills a real need most people aren't even aware of yet. I presume this will become clearer and clearer in the time to come.
