Square Launches to 4M US Merchants ๐Ÿคฏ

November 10th will forever be known as Square day! Square enabled general access to Bitcoin payments to all of their 4M US merchants in what represents one of the biggest merchant adoption milestones in Bitcoin's history.

Square image

It already feels like a lifetime ago, but it's not even been a month yet ๐Ÿ™ƒ. At the time of writing we have added 1,896 Square merchants and are currently working our way through a backlog of over 1,700 with no abatement in sight.

Our Shadowy Supertaggers are working overtime and so we'd like to shout out Comino, Rockedf, Rose, Beinardus and John Doe who are doing the majority of the heavy lifting- go tip those supertaggers!

If you are in the US and want to help with tagging then please get in touch - the more the merrier and far better done as locally as possible.

Android v1

November saw the milestone v1 'proud' release of our Android App, courtesy of Igor.

Highlights include:

  • ๐ŸŽจ Material 3 expressive colours and custom theming support
  • ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ Map style picker
  • ๐Ÿ—“๏ธ Show Bitcoin-related events and meetups
  • โšก Switch to v4 API
  • ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Improved language support

You can find the release notes here.

Web App

Hannes continues to crush it in improving the Web App, particularly on the performance side - we are now seeing cold start load times in a few seconds ๐Ÿ”ฅ.

There have also been a few notable UX changes as we have ditched the merchant pins in favour of the slide in panel, giving us more screen real estate to play with. We have also just launched the 'nearby merchants' panel where you can get a list of the merchants in view.

What do you think?

This month also saw us welcome a new contributor, Trigger, who has been refactoring the code base and making things a little more manageable and modular - important, but unglamorous work!
