‪I do 8,000+ steps most days so this is good news. (Alison Hoens‬ ‪@physioktbroker.bsky.social) Even modest daily step counts are associated with health benefits. 7000 per day= sizeable risk reductions across most outcomes, compared with 2000 steps per day. Even though risk continued to decrease beyond 7000 steps per day, it plateaued for some outcomes.🧪#PublicHealth #exercise https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanpub/article/PIIS2468-2667(25)00164-1/fulltext
Aaron Rupar on Trump's latest display of mental infirmity and evil intent: That was one of the most batshit press conferences of Trump's public life. He brandished a photo of Putin and promised to deploy the US military to occupy Chicago, New York, and San Francisco. A sane country would be moving toward impeachment and removal right now. #fascism
“The chief justice is presiding over the end of the rule of law in America,” Luttig told the Guardian. In Luttig’s view, the court under Roberts is “acquiescing in and accommodating the president’s lawlessness. And it is doing so without briefing, without argument, without deliberation – and without even a single word of explanation of its decisions.” ... “The supreme court was never intended to function like this. Never before has it entertained such challenges from the president, and never before has it decided them so flippantly.” ... “John Roberts knows exactly what he is doing,” the judge said, “and he knows exactly the message he is sending to America.” #SCOTUS
Speaking as a veteran and a federal retiree, I do not care if you burn the flag. Burn it all day if it makes you feel better. It's just a symbol. Everybody used to be allowed to feel however they want to about symbols. What's not a symbol is our system of government, which the fascist Trump regime has torn to shreds at breakneck speed, and those are the people who should be fucking punished for doing real damage. "The actual order will not carry any force of law. It is merely a directive to the Justice Department ordering prosecutors to set up a court battle over the issue by identifying protesters engaging in the act for future criminal actions. But given Trump’s unprecedented erosion of the Justice Department’s independence from politics and the White House, it’s likely that Attorney General Pam Bondi will follow up Trump’s order with concrete action."
It's deeply embarrassing and shameful that an A-list of EU leaders invited themselves to Trump's meeting with Zelenskyy to prevent another disgusting pile-on by Vance and Trump like they had only weeks ago in the White House. The EU understands fully that the Trump fascist regime is an adversary, the U.S. cannot be trusted as an ally anymore. It's shameful, but it's good to see them reacting appropriately to reality.

I'm still listening to #audiobook Caste by Isabel Wilkerson and there's a chapter on the idea that lower income white voters don't vote in their interests when they vote Republican. She explains that idea is a fallacy; they do vote in their interest, but the rest of us mistake what their priorities are. They're motivated to maintain white power, at the expense of literally anything else. Trying to explain to them that they're voting against their own interests is an argument that will fall on deaf ears. It's a powerful chapter in a very comprehensive study of caste. #bookstodon #racism
So Win10 support is ending soon so I did a trial run of Ubuntu to see how it feels. Mostly things ran ok. Little bit of a learning curve with the UI. Large learning curve for LibreOffice. Then I start reading the docs and discover there is no firewall. I look for Linux firewalls and get confused immediately because the apps sound like they are their own Linux distros. And it looks like I would have to learn a lot of command line stuff. On the ok side of things, I did find apps for things I use such as Plex, Private Internet Access (VPN), and my printer loaded up just fine. I'm too old for this shit
