The interesting thing about going to sporting event spectacles is that you can really lose yourself in it and spend good time with family and friends. Sense of belonging has degraded with the lockdowns. But you can find it when you are with others rooting for your team. You have to ignore the costs b/c it's expensive as hell, but with a little budgeting for it, it's manageable. Don't think about the spend of the greedy owners. But cheer with others for your team (tribal) and escape.
Today was day 2 of 2 for spectator sports extravaganza. This time the Bills @ Browns. It was a good game all the way through even though the Browns came up short. 24F gametime temp with a windchill that made it feel 11F. Frankly, I don't like it that cold. It's not fun IMO under 40F for a football game. Stadium was 70% bills fans too which also sucked. But the ones around us were pleasant to talk to.
My son got "me" tickets for xmas to the Buffalo Sabres vs. NY Islanders NHL game today. He's been going to college in New England which has much much more of a hockey culture than here in Cleveland, so he's been following Buffalo. that's a 3 hour drive each way. Wow! That was fun. That was the first time I've seen an NHL game in person. We have a minor league team here but the NHL teams are way better and much faster. I like Buffalo the city. Much less diverse than Cleveland is now.
Did you hear this?! The Patriot Games? One high school boy and one girl from all 50 states? "May the odds be ever in your favor" Lololol And an Arc de Triumph in DC for the 250th anniversary? Every empire isn't complete w/o one.
