European Messenger Apps and why you should consider same.

While we are indeed bound to a German entity, Delta Chat is built by an international team, with a decentralized approach. Chatmail servers are all around, even beyond EU borders, and this is a feature! Location matters! For some, having a server in your own country means "sovereignty", eco-friendly choice, or a community project... For others, who live in autoritarian contexts, it might be great to choose something outside, ideally in a country that doesnt maintain diplomatic relations with your homeland. Looking at existing Delta Chat chatmail servers, you might as well create a couple of accounts in different jurisdictions. Because who knows... yesterdays "democracies" quickly become tyrannies (or have always been). Sovereignty is not about how states define (economic and infrastructural) borders. I see people around me "migrating" to #deltachat from other messengers that they start mistrusting and stop associating themselves with those platforms. It gives me a very warm feeling. Of course it is a pleasure to know that a project you've been committed to for almost 8 years finds its unique place in a very complex, competitive messaging apps galaxy. But I also feel like we've been here all this time not because we were waiting for "the heyday". But just because we like what we do at Delta Chat, technically, socially, symbolically. However, when new waves of people do come to us, I am glad that they find a welcoming, usable, cosy and friendly environment. We've been trying to make it a home for ourselves, and it means that it can also be home for others. @npub17gpd...nrxn 🖤
