You are a criminal/artist in a cyberpunk and/or fantasy world with intricate fancy social codes. As a ner-do-well you have never needed your own symbol to stamp in wax for your letters (you just used your thumb) But, exciting new opportunities have you moving up in the world rapidly... suddenly you must pick a small object in your abode to make an impression: literally.
What do you choose as an impromptu standard?
With what object will you make YOUR mark?

It's that time of year to listen to the most beautiful part of Symphony No. 5 and NOT cry.
Without looking it up can you remember *why* Mary and Joseph were traveling when she was so pregnant? Why didn't they have a place to stay?
If you can't remember or never knew give your best guess. (I'm curious about the stories that live in people's heads as much as the ones that were written down.)
Biology experimental design challenge:
Question: Do cats notice the orientation of the ears of other cats or animals? Can they use this as a cue to locate prey or items of interest? (eg a toy)
Cats can turn their ears to listen directionality. Their ears are very large. Could cats notice the orientation of the ears of other cats or creatures that can angle their ears and use this to locate an item of interest?

I really wish somehow I could explain to Bari Weiss that these old conservative men will never ever respect her.
When they see you they see blue hair. They see every horrible stereotype of the "woke and over-educated" you can imagine. There is no service you can do for their odious causes that will change this.
They hate you and will only contain that hate to the extent you are useful.
Did you know that people can love you and respect you in ways that aren't related to being useful?
"You goose is cooked."
But is it WAXED?
This is a short video essay about history, the economics of poultry and why the "Christmas Goose" is something we think of as fancy and for rich people rather than a working class holiday staple.

#KingSolomon and the #Ant
(I will tell the story of King Solomon and the ant. I've read a lot of versions of this story and this is my own based on what I know about ants.)
King Solomon continued his journey flying over a vast desert on his flying carpet. Below him his army marched in neat rows. He could see for miles from the great height. "This is magnificent." he thought.
And because he could understand the speech of the animals he heard the birds agree.

βImmense worldβ is a remarkable book written with a lot of science but also sensitivity. I try to get everyone to read it. It totally changed the way that I think about how animals think.
The audiobook is great. With non-fiction sometimes audiobooks don't work, but this one is worth listening to. (Or just read the paperback)
Anyway, if you are looking for something that expands your horizons. Something that teaches you new things and that's ... positive.
This is it.
