I have a shell script I need to make as portable as possible.
Can I safely replace
`foo`
with
$(foo)
or are there some shells that don't support the "new" syntax?

While I brought Masters of the Elements to Windows 11, my fellow ScummVM co-lead @Eugene Sandulenko worked on bringing the title to ScummVM!
Yes, Masters of the Elements is one of the test titles for our Macromedia Director 6 implementation.
This title is FUN, or, in other news: 1.5 Weeks of Pain.

While working with the game files of Masters of the Elements, I found omething exciting hidden in one of the script files: Multiple, undocumented cheat and debug codes.
Well, they were undocumented up until now, so without further ado, but a hefty spoiler warning, letβs see how we can bend the laws of time, train bats, or get infinitely lucky.

I'm on a mission to save one of my childhood favorites from getting lost to time. We know what's going wrong. And we know how to fix it.
After more than 20 years, "Masters of the Elements" by the Dutch studio IJsfontein is working again! Natively. On Windows 11.
But I'm not entirely done yet.

Saving the Masters of the Elements From Getting Lost to Time: Part 3
I'm on a mission to save one of my childhood favorites from getting lost to time. At this point, we know what's going wrong. And we know how to fix...
Okay, #retrogaming #retroverse, do your magic - I need your help.
Supposedly, there's an Italian translation of the game "Masters of the Elements", at least according to Wikipedia in the available articles.
I couldn't find any evidence that the Italian variant exists.
Please, if someone knows the title of this version or even has a disc for sale, please let me know!

What looked like a bit of background noise turned out to be a DDoS attack against the ScummVM website.
Anubis truly saved the day. Read the full story here:

The Day Anubis Saved Our Websites From a DDoS Attack
Anubis, designed to protect your website from unwanted requests from AI crawlers, is way more powerful than you might think.
Since about 2 weeks, is subject to a DDoS attack where tens of thousands of IP addresses that disguise as legitimate browsers abuse the dynamic pages like version history and the search function, severely impacting performance and stability.
While I was able to somewhat mitigate it by improving the server configuration, I now implemented the perfect solution.
Say hello to Anubis. No worries, you'll get the bot challenge only once a week.
Making sure you're not a bot!
I should probably turn off my PC and don't return for the next couple of hours. Or days.

FreeDOS 1.4 is here!
