What is emerging from the files reveals not merely a reaffirmation of the most paranoid and terrifying conspiracy theories, but a genuine revelation—albeit partial—of phenomena and behaviors that once seemed confined to horror literature, film, criminal psychiatry, or the theology of the occult. We encounter the existence of malevolence that is neither instrumental nor utilitarian, but rather gratuitous, approaching hedonism if not serving as an end in itself. It is faith-based, diabolical in the most stringent sense.
We are confronted more with psychopathic cultists than with Machiavellian masters of evil. Thus, rather than focusing solely on the categories of power, we would do better to explore those of the soul. Instead of turning to judges, it is the exorcists who should be consulted.
