The Bitcoin unit sats doesn’t have an official symbol yet, so we’re using the Unicode character ṩ (U+1E69) to represent sats. Using the lightning bolt ⚡ to represent sats was confusing
The lightning bolt typically represents the number of zaps, not the total amount of sats. That made it misleading, so we decided to display both separately:
Zaps & Sats
There weren’t many good symbol options. AI suggested the Chinese character 丰, but that can be confusing for non-Chinese users, and its meaning—abundance doesn’t fit sats, which have a fixed supply.
Using the Bitcoin ₿ logo is also unclear, since it represents a full bitcoin, not satoshis. So when you read 21₿, it reads as 21 Bitcoin, not 21 sats.
A small s is easier to intuitively understand, which is why ṩ felt like the most reasonable choice.
