Hate hate hate AI with the passion of 1000 burning suns. Used to go to bed by thinking about some moon, planet or other astronomy subject and searching for a good lecture by typing the name of the subject followed by the word 'lecture'. Usually there were a couple short basic videos, but also experts with hour plus long technical presentations. Those are all gone now. Replaced by absurd AI bullshit slop videos that can't even pronounce technical terms correctly. It's all garbage.
Simply remarkable fall off in tourism to the United States. "The US is down at least $30 billion in tourism for 2025. International boycotts and a loss in appeal to visit due to Donald Trump has resulted in millions of trips canceled." source: Anonymous on Bluesky image
Bluesky users, if you do not want to provide your birthdate to US VC funded #Bluesky PBC, simply join one of the other completely independent decentralized AT protocol instances listed below: 😉 [end of list] (/s) Alternatively, you can just come on over to truly decentralized public social media where your personal data will not be exploited. EDIT: 🤦‍♂️ It seems Mastodon also now asks birthdate during sign up, but with substantive differences. See clarification below.
It is so nice to be active on a social media platform that doesn't require continually making up excuses and self serving justifications for its despicable enshittified behavior. It's nice to be proud of being a part of principled truly decentralized public social media. It really is.
'Nurenberg' is trending today. The Hegseth warcrime/murder matter looks like it's having much broader implications. Across the board, the prospect of eventual accountability seems to be registering for those who have acted with impunity under the assumption that they were forever untouchable.
Lots of anger being directed at the Democratic House members who voted "against socialism". Can we at least acknowledge that the Republican's entire purpose in framing this vote was to generate such intra-party commotion? And it was successful. This is right out of the Russian election interference playbook that brought us similar wedge issues in 2024. Not saying to ignore members voting records, particularly with the primaries coming up, but we should be wary of being played.
RE: Why does it matter who owns Bluesky? Because, as we saw in the run up to the 2024 election, these social networks can be used as information warfare tools, to alternatively suppress or amplify. We have already seen how administration misinformation is allowed on #Bluesky. What guarantees do we have that Democrats will not be deemphasized or muted in the upcoming election cycle?
