"Insects, bats, rodents and other pests have been spotted in federal buildings more than 500 times in the Ottawa area this year, as the government makes plans to get public servants to spend more time in the office." Sabourin said the pests included — but were “not limited to” — bats, birds, ants, bedbugs, bees, wasps and other small insects, mice and other rodents. #Ottawa #cdnpoli
lol just as expected --- The Canada Revenue Agency paid $18 million for a chatbot the auditor general says gave her team the wrong answer 66 per cent of the time. .. “We found that Charlie provided accurate answers in only 2 out of the 6 questions we asked it, while the other public web-based conversational artificial intelligence tools answered 5 out of 6 questions accurately.” The finding stunned Liberal MP Anthony Housefather, who asked Hogan at the time “how is it that the government’s tool specialized for the CRA is worse than the average tool that anyone else can access anywhere?”
Letting your cat outside might seem like harmless fun and good exercise for the animal, but it actually poses a serious risk to wildlife. Cats kill an estimated 2.5 billion birds every year, making them one of the leading causes of bird mortality. But it’s not just birds. Cats also prey on insects like butterflies and moths as well as small mammals during their outdoor excursions, and in turn, disturb the area’s biodiversity. https://onehealth.uoguelph.ca/2022/02/28/outdoor-cats-a-threat-to-more-than-just-birds/#:~:text=Letting%20your%20cat%20outside%20might,leading%20causes%20of%20bird%20mortality. #Subtoot
Ah, here he is again. The real Ford. -- Ontario Premier Doug Ford is threatening to audit all provincial spending to determine whether public-sector unions are “funnelling” money to “left-wing radical groups” that staged a protest inside the Ontario legislature. Ford’s warning came one day after members of the tenant advocacy group ACORN Canada interrupted the Ontario Legislature to protest a controversial omnibus bill that increases various landlord powers and shortens some eviction timelines. #onpoli
Omg, we're such a joke and a menace. Well deserved :face_melting: --- Canada received Tuesday’s Fossil of the Day award at the COP30 climate summit in Belém, Brazil. The award, bestowed by Climate Action Network International, recognizes the country deemed to have done the most each day to slow down global progress in response to climate change. CAN International chose Canada “with a heavy heart,” the network said in a release, “because the new government of Prime Minister Mark Carney has flushed years of climate policies down the drain, and is completely ‘Missing In Action’ at a COP where multilateralism needs to be saved. In addition to the backsliding on policies tackling Canada’s climate-destroying pollution, his Environment Minister Julie Dabrusin has chosen inaction and silence where leadership was urgently needed.” On the domestic front, the release adds, the Carney government has “systematically dismantled a decade of progress” in climate policy. #cdnpoli
