there is a conference about identity and privacy next week, might be of interest to some here >>> The first of those, VRM Day, will be focused entirely toward development on MyTerms, known officially as IEEE P7012: Draft Standard for Machine Readable Personal Privacy Terms. As I put it here, >>> MyTerms... will flip the script on how privacy is respected online, obsolescing notice-and-consent and opening markets to far better forms of mutual trust. It will also set the stage for far better signaling of intentions and agreements between customers and companies, making what was prophesied in The Intention Economy come true. When it does, People vs. Adtech will be a fight people will win. h/t Doc Searls
# Bitcoin Custody Options (not exhaustive list) Here are the main ways to custody bitcoin, from least to most self-sovereign: - **Centralized Exchange** - Shared custody wallets (Coinbase, Kraken). Some like River and Swan* allow buying/holding but not deposits - **Mobile Custody Apps** - Strike, Fold (simplified centralized custody) - for small amounts - ** Mobile Bitcoin or lightning Wallets ** - good for small to medium amounts - **Single-Signature Hardware** - Trezor, ColdCard (the word β€œwallet” is not right, these are transaction signers) - **Self-Managed Multi-Signature** - 2-of-3 setup using Sparrow and hardware signers - **Assisted (or Collaborative) Multi-Signature** β€” Companies like Unchained, Casa, or Swan hold 1 key, you control 2-4 keys plus backups - **Multi-party, Multi-Signature** β€” All keys held by separate companies (like Onramp). Requires identity verification (video) to sign transactions - **Bitcoin ETF** - This is in essence having a third party hold bitcoin for you. Self Custody is better, but this is an option that is better than fiat **Important Considerations** - Security (physical, digital, social engineering) - Access & Recovery - Counterparty Risk - Estate Planning
