Here’s a cool device idea: a bitcoin node that is ruggedized to live outside, with a motorized satellite antenna for blockchain/transaction downloading & software to scan the sky until it locks on the #blockstream satellite….would need Ku and C band versions but all you would need to do is supply power, point antenna to right half of the sky and it’ll just sync from genesis on its own (40 days or so minimum with current bandwidth).

There are precisely two electronic device categories that I have a fond affection for: my 1996 era TI-82 calculator and my @Coinkite #coldcard collection.
There is something very satisfying about using a purpose built machine with easy to navigate, well organized linear menus with every menu option having an important function…but no so many functions that you’ll never know what most of them do…
The physical interface of the Q is a massive improvement over the mk4, which was massive improvement over mk1. If you can only have one, get the Q. If you want or need small, mk4 is better but if you really need small, consider just teleporting the seed instead of transporting it on the device.
The only thing that would make me love my Q more would be simple games, or maybe a more easily accessible calculator function, both of which would be kind of absurd to put on the device…but the fact that the Q has a calculator mode is awesome.
Have you ever heard that quote attributed to Ben Franklin that “Beer is proof that Gid loves us and wants us to be happy?”
I think that was a typo. He meant #boobs. I think he must have meant boobs.
Remember, this is the guy who wrote a letter with advice on taking an older woman as a mistress over a younger one for a long list of very practical considerations…
I exist. Or at least I am pretty sure that I do.
