Dear friend, There is a voice that lives in every one of us. It is not loud in the way noise is loud. It does not shout in the streets or make grand speeches. It whispers quietly in your head when no one else is around. It is the voice that says you are not enough. The one that mocks your pace, your progress, your worth. It speaks when you wake up late, when your plans do not go as expected, or when you scroll through your phone and see someone else smiling in ways you have not smiled in months. I know that voice. I have heard it too. And for a long time, I believed it. --- The Day I Compared My Life Away It was an ordinary afternoon. I was tired and trying to take a short break, so I opened WhatsApp and started going through people’s statuses. I was not looking for anything in particular, just passing time. Then I saw a familiar name. A friend from college. Someone I had not spoken to in a while. Their updates came in short bursts. A new car, a beautiful house, fancy pictures from a night out, smiling faces, glowing lights. It looked like a dream. I stared for a while. My heart started to feel heavy. Without realizing it, I began comparing. In seconds, my mind built an entire story. Look at them. They are doing so well. And you? You are still struggling, still trying, still behind. That small whisper grew louder until it filled my whole mind. It told me I was wasting my life. That all my effort meant nothing. That I was supposed to be further ahead. The funny thing is, I was not lazy. I was working hard. I was pushing through a difficult season of life, chasing a dream that did not come with quick rewards. But the moment I saw those images, all of that vanished. I began to blame myself. I told myself I was not enough. I did not even question what I saw. I did not ask if that friend was happy or if those things were real. I just decided that because they had something I did not, I was failing. That is what the inner critic does. A student who got 3.8 CGPA is unhappy because another student got 4 CGPA. The student with 4 CGPA is unhappy because he/she is not placed in a Core Company. Student placed in a Core Company is unhappy because his colleague has more salary than him/her. The person having the highest salary in a company is unhappy because he/she has no time at all to enjoy their life with friends and family.
