Currently spinning Bill Evans’ Portraits at the Penthouse. This was a recent Record Store Day pickup and my first Bill Evans album. I knew he played keys on Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue, but after reading the liner notes and revisiting his history, I realized he did far more for jazz piano than I expected. Really glad I picked this one up.

Now spinning Cheryl Lynn’s Instant Love. Produced by Luther Vandross, this 1982 album is actually quite good. While her mainstream pop success waned in the late 1980s, her early hits remain popular, frequently sampled, and clearly influential. The duet with Luther here is a real pleasure to listen to.
