People can be Jews. People can be Israelis. People can be Jewish and Israeli. People can be Jewish and NOT Israeli (or feel any affinity or affiliation with Israel at all). Just because you’re born a Jew doesn't mean Israel sends you an overseas ballot in their elections. You have to be an Israeli to be held responsible for the government elected there. Stop fucking conflating the two. It’s antisemitic.
The curse of getting older is that, ironically, as you get more eccentric, you grow more intolerant of other people’s eccentricities. I have a lunch date with some friends today who are a couple. Part of me loves to spend time with them. Part of me dreads the incessant whining about the ravages of age. I’m very fond of him, but the over-lunch discussion with her always ends up being a long, long list of the things she can’t eat. It gives me indigestion.
I want to propose the thought experiment that we put a thumb over the image of Trump and see what the landscape looks like with him blocked out. It is a wasteland of anger and agony, of the impossibly rich and contemporary serfdom. Of morality free consumption. @npub1vrxd...3a9c describes it best - although I think that the ‘christianity’ part, like Trump, is simply a coat hanger for a monstrous system.
