IMPORTANT UPDATE! โ€œThe detection order will not be part of the EU presidencyโ€™s new compromise proposal. It will remain voluntary for tech giants to search for child sexual abuse material.โ€ Danish Minister of Justice, Peter Hummelgaard, confirms today that Denmark is backing down and dropping mandatory scanning. Thank you all for raising your voices!
Denmark has tabled next week's vote on Chat Control. Yet, per Peter Hummelgaard: "The Danish Presidency will, however, continue to work with the member states to find a solution, and therefore negotiations on the technical details of the proposal continue. It is urgent to find common ground."
๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ช Germany is AGAINST Chat Control: Jens Spahn: "We as the CDU/CSU parliamentary group are against indiscriminate monitoring of chats. That would be like preemptively opening all letters to check whether there's something illegal in them. That's not acceptable, that won't happen under our watch." image
๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น Italy remains UNDECIDED, but is leaning towards SUPPORTING Chat Control despite clear conflicts with constitutional guarantees on privacy and the secrecy of correspondence. If you are Italian, consider contacting your national parliament members via ! image
Peter Hummelgaard, Danish Minister of Justice, in an interview about Chat Control, remains defiant: "I indisputably believe that surveillance creates an increased sense of security ... and given that the prerequisite for freedom is security, yes, I believe that more surveillance equates to more freedom" Disagree? IMPORTANT UPDATE: Denmark has scheduled a vote on Chat Control the 14th of October.
