You’d think people would want to work together to get people off of #BigSocial yet people want to be weird & engage in protocol wars. That lets me know it’s not truly about the public benefit #atproto #activitypub #opensocialweb

I want to see #Fediverse embrace sustainability beyond “small instances” I want to see small businesses, creators, devs, writers etc be able to make money. I see no reason to shy away from ads and subscriptions. Ads should be done respectfully- follow the magazine model and only be connected to a specific service. For example, clients should be able to show ads in a tasteful manner and if that bothers people they can just use a different client. I’d much rather see people’s dollars going to spaces like these as opposed to Musk and Zucks businesses. Idk what the ethical alternative to Twitter Blue looks like but I’d much rather see money going to the Mastodon team

One thing I miss on social media is quality content and conversations. Where people would have civil discussions even in disagreements and point to reputable sources instead of “trust me bro” “ do your own research (aka YouTube). I’m sick of the purity tests where people generally on the same sides end up fighting because 1-3 differences. There needs to be a network and platform that emphasises this. #opensocialweb #fediverse #eq #quality

I’m curious. This place has a very vocal anti-capitalist community, anytime moneys come up people shout about donations. When it comes to consent and Trust & Safety I’ve seen many people attack devs. Yet, when #Mastodon was asking for donations to fund a position it was largely crickets. #IFTAS has done great work and set out to be a great benefit to the #fediverse and #OpenSocialWeb yet they’re struggling to keep the lights on. How can that be? So many of you are always talking about donations so why are projects underfunded and servers shutting down due to lack of funding?
