I guess this gives (again) a nice example how a various effects of a collapse could work out.
Electricity gone also means:
* no way to fill up your car
* in some places water supply stopped (pumps!)
* no way to contact a doctor, fire fighter or other emergency service
* food spoils because freezers thaw
* huge congestion because problems with all type of traffic.
* ATM don't work
* mobile phones can't be used and only last as long as their batteries
* many shops can't sell, because their cash registers don't work.
* etc. etc.
In short mayhem all over the place.
Luckily I'm on a small solar system and amazingly most of the day internet worked. Only an outage from 14:30 to around 18:00
Unfortunately my website is down, although the (solar powered) server didn't give a budge.
BARCELONA, Spain (AP) â A blackout brought much of Spain and Portugal to a standstill Monday, halting subway and railway trains, cutting phone service and shutting down traffic lights and ATMs for millions of people across the Iberian Peninsula.
Spainâs Prime Minister Pedro SĂĄnchez said that a problem in the European grid that he described as a âstrong oscillationâ was behind the outage, but that the cause was still being determined. The Spanish leader asked the public to refrain from speculation and said no theory about the cause of the outage had been discarded.
Spanish power distributor Red ElĂŠctrica said that restoring power fully to the country and neighboring Portugal could take 6-10 hours. By mid-afternoon, voltage was progressively being restored in the north, south and west of the peninsula, the company said. The company declined to speculate on the causes of the huge blackout.
SĂĄnchez thanked the governments of France and Morocco, where energy was being pulled from to restore power to north and southern Spain.
The Portuguese National Cybersecurity Center issued a statement saying there was no sign the outage was due to a cyberattack.
