Great, the Committee on Petitions declared my open letter to European politicians to leave X as admissible! They have forwarded the petition to the European Parliament’s Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) and the Special committee on the European Democracy Shield (EUDS) for information. I will add the links in their letter as a reply to this post. I just didn't get why the petition status is closed and was never open for signatures:

I’m not part of academia, but I am who I am because of it. Coming from one of the most unequal countries in the world, I was fortunate to study at one of its top universities. I don’t need to list all the doors that opened for me as a result. I still have friends and contacts in the academic world, and it pains me to see it under threat in a country that has produced so much knowledge and provided opportunities to so many talented people from all walks of life. I’ve met countless brilliant minds who were able to do their work thanks to academic freedom in the US and the excellence of its research and educational institutions. At this point, we don’t need to focus on the flaws - they are about to become the least of our problems. Everyone who understands the importance of academic freedom and its role in a democratic society should be deeply concerned. #academia #democracy #university #USA #USPol #education #coup

If you come from the Global South, you might feel more empathy for those harmed by American foreign policy for several decades.
