It's great that people are talking about textcasting, but they want to know what it means. Here's the story. When Twitter came out in 2006 they left out most of the writing features of the web. Their competitors have copied the limits. Textcasting says writers don't want the limits. Add these features to your twitter-like social network and we are happy and will sing your praise.
If you want to get an idea of how well WordPress has been bridged to ActivityPub, check out the attached screen shot. That's what my WordPress blog looks like as viewed in Mastodon. I think there's an important line that has been crossed here, and it's time to Think Different about the distance between WordPress and Mastodon, as I wrote on Scripting News on Thurs. cont'd in reply image
You know how there’s a rule that in order to be a podcast it has to have an RSS feed… What would be the equivalent statement about the web? How can you tell of a document or app is β€œon the web?” This is something I’d like to work out with people who understand, support and protect the web.
It would be interesting if Pocket Casts had an API. I would love to be able to one-click subscribe to a podcast in my feed reader. I mention Pocket Casts because it's the podcast client I use on my phone, but I would obviously like to see them all support an API, ideally a common API.
BTW, most people think they don't need to understand whether or Bluesky is decentralized, a claim they make. Here's why you should care. If Bluesky gets a govt order to shut down your account, they can. That's it. That's how you know it's centralized and why you should care.
