Roughly this time tomorrow I’ll be chatting with the folks at Sensemaking Scenius about all things Open Source, something I’ve dedicated >20 years of my life to and have *opinions* about. I reckon it’s high time we made OSS an innately anti-fascist movement that doesn’t pander to oligarchs and autocrats. Let’s talk about it! #opensource #antifa #democracy
Anti-fascistic software is made possible by pro-labor licensing. I've been trying to write this piece for years. Every time I get started I'm just overwhelmed with paralyzing visions of the FOSS commentariat accusing me of WrongThink, more so here on the fediverse than anywhere else. But I'm scared and tired and we urgently need to get our shit together. #OpenSource #foss #licensing
Hope this leads to an even larger shared-layer between all the js/node #activitypub implementations like Ghost, NodeBB, *keys et.al. Particularly wishing for convergence around a shared *identity core* across all these AP apps in accordance with NomadPub by @npub19yg7...wysk 📃.md FEP-ef61: Portable Objects FEP-ae97: Client-side activity signing That in addition to a common OAuth foundation would effectively be ActivityPub 2.0 and on-par with atproto.
While the newest bsky drama is playing itself out, here’s a great opportunity for us to lay an old one to rest: @npub1c80a...5lwq has opened the door to cross-pollination between the AT and AP protocols. [@thisismissem]( ) already jumped in with an open and collaborative spirit. We can bury this old 🥩 and *get on with it*. Clean separation between user data and app platform is a powerful concept and #activitypub will be so much better for it.
@npub1fdrp...lvhs & co is there any web service or specifically a community platform whose Terms of Service you consider to be quite exemplary? We’re drafting the ToS for our (open source and protocol-based) community web app and I’m wondering if there’s some good prior art out there to draw from. The Discourse.org ToS was pretty good when I still worked there years ago so that’ll be one of our baselines. Same guy who co-drafted that also made this: 📃.md
