Holotropic Philosophy π’‚Όπ’„„ nostr only
I just finished this audiobook. It was great. I'll post some thoughts below: image The title is a bit sensationalized, similar to his other book Apocalypse Never, but the book itself was a truly thoughtful and nuanced approach to the topic of homelessness and it's relationship to drug addiction. He writes very well and is deeply philosophical in his approach. He includes relevant statistics, interesting anecdotes, interviews, independent research studies, and historical context for much of his perspective. By about three fourths of the way through the book I was becoming concerned that he was not going to make any pragmatic suggestions to fix the problem, but he delivered on his promise right at the end of the book. While I am very reluctant to endorse the creation of another government agency to handle the mental health crisis in California or anywhere else I thought his suggestions were well considered. I'm not sure if he nailed the solution, but he provided a lot of food for thought, both for conservatives and progressives. Naturally as a bitcoiner I was disappointed he didn't draw the link to inflation, which exacerbates homelessness more than any other factor by my estkmation, but if you share my concern about the drug addiction and homelessness we are seeing today this book is worth a read.
